Preventive Programs

Preventive Programs is one of several units reporting to Harvard Library Preservation Services. We provide advice to all libraries within the Harvard University community on how to prevent damage to collections, including emergency preparedness, preservation storage environments, and preventing damage during handling, exhibitions and loans, transport, collection moves, and construction. Staff expertise also includes audiovisual preservation and collection registration. We promote preventive preservation concepts through in-person training, presentation events, the WEI resource library, and stewardship of online resources such as guidelines and forms. We are based at 90 Mt. Auburn Street in Cambridge, MA.

Preventive Programs' mission statement

Preventive Programs supports the Harvard Library mission by ensuring continued access to library and archive collections and content through preservation planning and preventive care training and services on behalf of students, faculty, researchers, and staff of Harvard University and beyond.
