Welcome New Staff: Fionnuala Gerrity, Sara Lanham, and Eliza Spaulding

Preservation Services would like to welcome three new members to our team, Fionnuala Gerrity, Sara Lanham, and Eliza Spaulding!

Fionnuala Gerrity began their work with us in August as a conservation technician in our Collections Care lab at Widener Library. Fionnuala worked in Collections Care previously in term and temp positions, and joins us most recently from Brandeis University Library, where they were Preservation Coordinator.

In October, Sara Lanham started as our other new conservation technician in the Widener lab. She joins us most recently from Etherington Conservation in Greensboro, North Carolina and a wide variety of conservation lab positions previously.

Sara and Fionnuala join our busy lab at Widener Library and our other technicians in maintaining the university’s collections for patron use. This wide work scope ranges from minor paper repair to vacuuming items, or even completely resewing a book, if necessary. It also includes stabilizing items prior to digitization which makes them more accessible to a wider audience around the world.

Eliza Spaulding started as the Helen H. Glaser Senior Paper Conservator at the Weissman Preservation Center at the end of September. She joins us most recently from the Worcester Art Museum. In this role, Eliza manages daily operations of an active conservation program for works on paper and parchment in the special collections of Harvard Library. This includes coordination of single-item and collection-based treatments, preservation advice, consultation, education, and other programmatic activities.
