New Staff, New Workflows

The Weissman Preservation Center welcomed a "new" staff member in March. After 17 years as a Conservation Technician in our Enclosures lab, Andrew Leonard took on a new role as Exhibition Technician working closely with our Conservator for Exhibitions, Catherine Badot-Costello. This team will collaborate with other Harvard Library Preservation Services staff to prepare and install collection items for Harvard Library's robust exhibition and loan schedules.

Special Collections Conservator, Kelli Piotrowski (L), speaks with Exhibitions Technician, Andrew Leonard (C), and Conservator for Exhibitions, Catherine Badot-Costello (R) about display options for this textile from Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Creator: Helène Aylon, from the Records of the Women's Encampment for a Future of Peace & Justice.

Both Catherine and Andrew add a significant amount of exhibition experience to our team. In her 25 years as a Special Collections Conservator at Harvard, Catherine has worked closely with numerous repositories to create exhibition spaces that meet the highest quality standards and has prepared countless rare items, such as books, paper-based items, and photographs for exhibitions. Andrew brings years of experience from his time as Exhibitions Preparator for the Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library, Tufts University Art Galleries, MFA Boston, MIT Museum and Brandeis.

Catherine and Andrew will spend much of their time behind the scenes in our conservation lab as they streamline our exhibition workflows and prepare collection items for display. If you are a dedicated visitor on campus,  you might see them installing collections in one of our many Harvard Library exhibition spaces.
