Preservation Programs and Outreach

Preservation Programs and Outreach (PPO) is one of several units reporting to Harvard Library Preservation Services. PPO provides advice to all libraries within the Harvard University community on how to prevent damage to collections, including careful handling, emergency preparedness, and environmental monitoring. Staff expertise includes audiovisual preservation, exhibition curation and preparation, history of photography, and collection registration. PPO also promotes library preservation concepts through an outreach program that includes in-person training, presentation events, the WEI resource library, and stewardship of online resources such as guidelines and forms. PPO is based at 90 Mt. Auburn Street in Cambridge, MA.

PPO's mission statement

Preservation Programs and Outreach (PPO) supports the Harvard Library mission by ensuring continued access to library and archive collections and content through preservation planning and preventive care services on behalf of students, faculty, researchers, and staff of Harvard University and beyond. Our outreach mission is to increase the effectiveness and promote stakeholder awareness of Preservation Services activities and expertise.
